From time to time, we offer short-term internships and research assistant positions linked to funded projects. These roles may involve data preparation, annotation, tool development, digital curation, or methodological support.

Digital Humanities is embedded across our taught provision in Classics and Ancient History. We offer innovative undergraduate modules that introduce students to digital, computational, and data-driven approaches to the ancient world, alongside advanced training at postgraduate level.

At MA level, our teaching connects with wider University provision, including pathways linked to Durham’s MA in Data Science, enabling students to combine disciplinary expertise with advanced quantitative and computational skills.

Students interested in undergraduate or MA-level Digital Humanities study are encouraged to explore relevant module and programme information and to contact members of the team to discuss options and pathways.

PhD in Classics at Durham

We welcome visiting doctoral researchers from other institutions for research stays, exchanges, or short-term visits. Visiting PhD students can benefit from methodological training, access to specialist expertise, and participation in our research environment.

Department of Classics and Ancient History

Members of the team offer consultancy and advisory support in Digital Humanities, including:

• DH strategy and research design
• methodological advice for projects and grant applications
• evaluation of digital resources, datasets, and infrastructures

We work with academic departments, research projects, cultural heritage organisations, and other partners. Enquiries about formal consultancy or advisory roles are welcome.

We regularly organise workshops, training sessions, and summer schools focused on Digital Humanities methods, tools, and critical approaches to the ancient world. These events are open to researchers and students at different career stages.
